Terms of use
The rules for using Alguni, written for the grown-up who set it up rather than for a lawyer. Using the app means agreeing to them.

What Alguni is
A learning app for children of roughly 8 to 15, teaching programming, digital logic, maths and related subjects through short lessons whose code really runs. It is a teaching tool, not a school, a qualification or a substitute for either.
What costs money, and what does not
The first two units of every track are free for ever, and a fortnight of everything is free to try, with no card. There is no advertising anywhere in the app.
The fortnight starts the first time a learner opens a lesson beyond the first two units of a track. It lasts 14 days, needs no card, and ends by itself: nothing is charged and nothing renews. Each account gets it once.
After that, a family plan opens the rest of every track and covers everybody in one household: Family, a year at $39.99 a year, or Family, for good at $79.99 once.
Prices are shown before anything is bought: in the iOS app by Apple, and in the Android app by Google Play. The website does not sell plans yet: a family plan bought in the iPhone app opens every lesson on this website too, with the same account. A promotion code, where one has been given out, opens the whole app for a set number of days and costs nothing.
Renewing, cancelling and refunds
Family, a year renews by itself every year until it is cancelled. It can be cancelled at any time, and access continues to the end of the year already paid for.
Where to cancel depends on where it was bought. Bought on the web: the *Manage or cancel* button on the family screen opens Stripe’s own page. Bought in the iOS app: the phone’s Settings, under your Apple Account → Subscriptions, as Apple requires. Bought in the Android app: Google Play → Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions.
Family, for good is paid once. Nothing renews, and there is nothing to cancel.
Refunds are handled by whoever took the payment, under their own rules: for a purchase on the web, write to hello@alguni.com or ask Stripe; for one made on a phone, ask Apple or Google Play. A refunded plan stops opening the rest of the tracks.
A lesson a child has finished is never taken back. When a plan, a refund or the fortnight ends it, the lessons beyond the ones that stay open lock again, but every trophy already earned stays earned.
Making an account
A child under 13 must have the account created by a parent or guardian, who is agreeing to these terms on their behalf. The grown-up email given at sign-up is the only way to recover a forgotten password, so it is worth it being one somebody reads.
One account per child, please. Keep the password to yourselves; anyone who has it can see and change that child’s progress.
Using it fairly
Code written in a lesson runs in a sandbox on the learner’s own device. Please do not try to break out of it, to reach another account, to overload the servers, or to copy the lessons out and sell them.
An account doing any of those may be closed. That has never happened, and the rule exists so that it can be applied evenly if it ever needs to be.
What is promised, and what is not
A great deal of effort goes into the lessons being correct: every program in them is run against the real tool it teaches before it ships, and a lesson that would teach something false fails the build instead. That is a promise about care, not a guarantee of perfection.
The app is provided as it is. It may occasionally be unavailable, and it may contain mistakes. Alguni is not responsible for anything that follows from using it, beyond what the law does not allow to be excluded — and nothing here takes away a right the law where you live gives you.
Privacy
What is stored about a child, and what deliberately is not, is set out on the privacy page. It is short, because there is very little.
